Glendale has the shortes commute to downtown Denver, but assuming you have kids in school you probably don't want to live there.

Yes, I probably should have mentioned that. Two small kids who will be in school in the not-too-distant future. So safe, family-friendly neighborhood is key. Thanks.

Here's a map:
District Map - CCSD
Glendale is mainly apartments. Depending on what you want to do, Centennial east of Holly is in CCSD and pretty good (light and dark blue on map - includes Cherry Hills and Greenwood Village, great if you can afford them). with lower commute time than SE Aurora area. SW Aurora is in CCSD but may not be most desirable area (orange and light yellow). As you go further out, commute increases but SE Aurora, East Centennial etc is pretty highly recommended but again commute has increased.

I'd say pick the particular school (and neighborhood) you want your kids to attend (some Cherry Creek elementary school are year round, some are on a traditional schedule - among many other differences) and just deal with whatever commute you have.
If commute is really your primary concern, the easiest commutes would be from areas in the district with easy access to I-25 and I-225. Areas that seem to best fit that description are the neighborhoods that feed into Polton, Holly Hills, Holly Ridge, and Belleview elementary schools. There are also some areas further south that provide easy highway access, but driving in the DTC during rush hour on I-25 can be a nightmare.

We are in the Holly Hills, and love it. My daughter goes to Holly hill elementary and son attends Cherry Creek high. You can get to I25 two ways, Yale and Hampden.

We live in Piney Creek (near Parker @ Orchard), in the CCSD and my DH commutes to downtown every weekday. He drives 10 minutes to the Nine Mile light rail station, and the train ride is about 30-40 minutes to get downtown.
