Colorado is a poor north-south arterial that is functional only in Denver. Colfax takes you the east-west length of the city. It is the only east-west street (not freeway) that travels all the way from one side of the metro to the other. Plus, it goes through downtown.

Second Tier streets: University, Colorado, Sheridan, 38th Ave, Alameda, Speer, Arapahoe Rd, Parker Rd/Kipling/Alameda and more

First tier streets connect the most important places together and have an importance that goes beyond the Denver city limits. They are often the areas where you will find important businesses, cultural districts, and/or entertainment.

Important places reached via Colfax: Golden, Lakewood, West Denver Businesses, Stadium, Downtown (Capitol), East Denver Businesses, Aurora.

Important places reached via Broadway: Downtown (Capitol), South Broadway Businesses, Englewood, Littleton, Highlands Ranch.

Important places on Santa Fe: Downtown (Auraria), Gates, Sheridan/Englewood, Littleton, Highlands Ranch, Sedalia, Castle Rock.

Important places on Federal: Littleton, Sheridan, Colorado Heights Univ., South Federal Businesses, Stadium, North Denver, Westminster

Important places on Wadsworth: Lockheed-Martin, Chatfield Reservoir, SW Plaza, Lakewood (Belmar), Wheat Ridge, Arvada (olde Arvada), Broomfield (Interlocken, Rocky Mtn Airport, First Bank Center).

Second tier streets are important for a much shorter stretch. They have limited importance and connect fewer places.

Colorado Blvd, for example, essentially starts at Hampden Ave and ends as it merges with Vasquez Blvd north of I-70. It important only really inside of Denver. It does give access to the museum/zoo/city park area, and there are some businesses mostly south of 1st Ave, but that is about it.

Colfax is Denver's Main Street.

It is also the longest commercial street in the country.

There is no question which is more important.

True, though Colorado Blvd. is more of a commercial artery than Colfax. There are many more large businesses that run along Colorado Boulevard than Colfax, which mostly consists of small motels, boutiques, and bars.

Are you saying that the businesses on Colorado are more important than those found on Colfax?

Colfax is the southern border of downtown. There are several businesses/government entities/culturally important institutions on Colfax including:
- Colorado Mills Shopping Mall and Denver West Business Park
- First Bank headquarters (Lakewood)
- Lakewood auto row
- Casa Bonita!
- Auraria Campus
- The Colorado Convention Center
- Denver jail/City and County Building/State
- State Capitol Building/Several Colorado gov't agencies
- Basilica of the Immaculate Conception
- The Denver Post
- The Tattered Cover
- National Jewish Hospital
- CU Medical Center
- Children's Hospital

Additionally, because Colfax is such an important commercial corridor, there are many small businesses on the street including dispensaries, restaurants, motels, stores, etc.

Not more important, just that there were larger businesses on Colorado. I wasn't including churches, govt. buildings, or hospitals (NJH can be considered on CO Blvd. btw ). I was also just thinking about the areas of these roads that are actually in Denver. The strip of Colfax that's in Denver is, as someone else described, mostly small businesses you'd find on Main Street. Colorado Blvd. has a lot more large hotels, office buildings, and retail outlets. Again, I'm only considering the segments of these roads that actually go through Denver and not the adjoining suburbs.

Either way, I'm not claiming that one is more important than the other per se. I just think of CO Blvd as more of a commercial artery than Colfax. I think of Colorado Blvd as the place I'm going to go for shopping. I think of Colfax as the road I'm going to take to get across town or stop over to get a beer.

I lived at 12th and Colorado for about two years and absolutely hated it. It was sooooo busy, much more so than Colfax IMO.

In what way? For businesses or traffic flow?

Colfax is not important for traffic flow. 13th, 14th, 17th, and 18th have it covered. However, Colorado's alternates are University and Monaco, both too far out of the way. Vote goes to Colorado.

For business it is debatable. Colfax has a lot of retail and restaurants. Colorado has larger retail spaces as well as commercial office space.

Why are you asking?
