Does anyone know anything about the charter school PS 1? It is Delaware and Speer. I am really interested in more than just the testing stats...is it an alternative school or more like a school without walls? Is it a place for kids bounced out of regular public school or is it regular kids with an open learning environment?

Also, I see a school called Accelerated Schools on Cook Street, but I can't get a feel for what that school is all about, either from their website.

My 16 year old is bright, but needs a small school environment due to a learning disability, but I can't afford Denver Academy Any ideas?

When PS1 first began, I think it really was a 'school without walls.'
I really admired what the team that created it was doing.
I am unconvinced that this is how it remained. I did get the sense that it turned into more of a 'problem child' school.
However, it's been several years since I left Denver and I am no longer in contact with any of those people.
I don't know anything about the school on Cook Street.
What are your son's interests?
Would the School of Science and Technology appeal to him, or does he need a more specialized environment?
When I lived in Denver, my next door neighbor sent her teen daughter to Jefferson County Open School. Both daughter and mom were very pleased with her experience there.

IMO, and this is based on observations, many of these specialty schools turn into "problem child" schools. I would advise evaluating any Charter/focus/opiton school carefully.
