I'm looking for little insight about life in CO and Denver region especially. We are young family with 8mths old and currently live in NJ/Metro area. Both me and my wife come from Europe and life in NJ just isn't what we look for for ourselves and our baby. We did lot of travelling and research - however we skipped a visit to CO so far. To those who live/moved there - would you rate it as a good transplant area? We look forward to buy a house and settle for at least 10 yrs. How are the people / jobs / schools / cost of living? NJ is very cosmopolitan; however it has other downfalls that are hard to deal with. Thank you for all potential hints!

Denver is "somewhat" cosmopolitan, but not as much as the East Coast and certainly not as much as European cities.

If you are looking for a "European" type of town, no place in the United States fits the bill outside of New York city.

as for Denver, it's a pretty good city. It's laid back, friendly. You'll find it to be much more relaxed than the East Coast.

The proximity of the Rocky mountains is really neat.

I personally rank Denver in my top five favorite U.S. cities.

What about NJ don't you like and is hard to deal with?

In general, Denver is a mid-size western American 'tier b' city. It does attract a lot of transplants because it offers good amenities (certainly not at the level of London or New York, but good enough to keep things interesting), the Rocky Mountains are a giant playground, the weather is decent (we do get snow and it can get hot in the summer & cold in the winter), there is a pretty good job pool, the schools are generally above average, and the cost of living is reasonable. It seems like most everyone here is from somewhere else, so it is good for some relocation.

I know it sounds trite, but NOT a good city to move to and then hope you end up getting a job. A GREAT city to relocate to if you can get a job offer here first.

Hi, our "inconveniences" of NJ are related to housing (ration between the price of the home and its quality + insane property taxes), high taxes, lack of space. Metro area is extremly dense - you are never alone. If you're single and renting - you may be happy here somehow. As a young family, some things seem out of the reach or you have to spend double the effort and money to get them.
