I am planning to move to Parker, Co and I was wondering what the insurance rates are going for in that part of the country. Coming from South Florida, we pay a very high premium for homeowner’s insurance and with that comes the hurricane coverage and a hefty deductible (2% of the market value).

nope. No chance of a Cat 5 here. Greater potential of hail damage. Call a local insurance agent. I'll give you my agents number if you want.

Your rates will vary drastically depending on the value of the home, amount of your deductible, credit rating and claim history. Most companies also give a discount if you use the same company for Auto & Home. We currently pay a little over $500 per year to insure our $650k home with a $5,000 deductible. We used to pay $1,200 before we switched insurance companies and increased our deductible.

Well, considering that I currently pay $3,500.00 for a 500K home and a 2% deductable, that's a lot lower!
Thanks

Since hail damage is the most likely claim, your rates depend a lot on the composition of your roof. In the 80's & 90's shake roofs were the most popular, but then we had some really big hail storms.

The previous owner of my house had just put on a new shake roof before we bought it. My insurance agent said, "too bad." My rate ($2,200 for $500k) would be much lower with a non-shake roof.

Ben, I sure would like to know who your insurance agent is! I just received a letter in the mail with the insurance renewal for a 400K home in Parker,CO raising the rate from 1400 to 1900 a year which I find absurd as well as ridiculously high. Reply direct if possible.

Ricky, welcome to Denver! I will be moving there from South Florida (Pembroke Pines) next month. I pay closer to $6k for my home in insurance and was quoted $800 for a $500k home in Highlands Ranch
