I'm looking moving to The Breakers Resort
9099 East Mississippi Avenue

I'm wondering what the estimated Taxi Fee would be to get from there to LODO. Mapquest said 8 miles 20 min. drive. Any ideas?

I would also be curious about how prevalent taxis are in the downtown and surrounding areas. Can you just flag one down in most downtown area neighborhoods, or do you have to call for one if you are not in the heart of the city?

Taxi service is terrible in LoDo and everywhere else in Denver and the suburbs. I can't think of one good thing to say about the taxi companies. There was a bill recently in our legislature to provide more competition and accountability for the taxi mafia, but it got shot down (presumably by their influence). Taxi drivers love to go to the airport because it's far and there are plenty of opportunities for their overcharging shenangians, but they don't like to go anywhere else. They hate going to the suburbs because they'll never find anyone who wants to go back to the city -- they hate going around inside the city because they can't ring the meter up high enough to make it worth their while (though believe me they try).

Default Similar question

I was also curious about cab fares, how much it would cost to get from Northglenn (104th & Melody) to Co. Springs (around Shawnee Dr., I can't remember any nearby intersections close to that street)... Mapquest says it's 83.94 miles, and if any cab drivers would be willing to drive an hour and a half? My phone has been acting up for about a week, so I'm not able to call a cab company.

Default The Breaker's Resort Apt, good move?

I found this place on Craigslist and its located off Mississippi...anyone know anything about it? I've heard the apt are a bit old, but the leasing office said they have some of their newly redone ones available. Anyone know about the type of residents they have there? Are the ammentities as great as they are marketing? How fun/safe is the surrouding area? Thanks.

Old? the Breakers is relatively new. It is one of the premier apartment communities in the area. Highly recommended! They won a bunch of awards when they were built, and used to have waiting lists to get in.

Now that some of the novelty is worn off, it's easier to get into, but age is not a factor. It's less than 10-15 years old.

It's a relatively isolated area bordered by a cemetery far to the north and nicer retirement community. It's very safe and nicely designed. If the prices are affordable, it's a thumbs-up.

We looked at the Breakers 6 months ago when we relocated to the Denver area. Unlike the previous poster, I did find it to be old and over priced. The ammenities of the community seemed nice, but I couldn't warrant spending an addition $300 a month for a gym & a little lake. One benefit of the Breaker's is that you have a secure gate (gate guard) unlike some of the others in the area. Ultimately, we ended up renting basically across the street from the Breaker's. Like anything it's hit or miss. We had a pleasant expereince but others told horror stories. Hope this helps.
