Can anyone recommend an OB( and Peri) for a high risk pregnancy? We are new to the area and I need to get these things lined up before a pregnancy. My first pregnancy required 2 months hospitalization and 5 weeks NICU stay... so I really want to be prepared if we can be lucky enough to get pregnant again. I had wonderful Drs. back in Texas - they were very conservative and very cautious with my pregnancy... and I can only attribute that as the the reason we have a healthy son today. So I am looking for the same here. We live in Parker, but I'm not opposed to driving a little out of the way if need be. So far, people have recommended SkyRidge Hospital and while it looks very nice, I have yet to find anything about antepartum living.

Any referral and advice would be most welcomed!

My recommendation is Presbyterian St. Luke's (or PSL to the locals). PSL has a large Level III NICU in the Rocky Mountain region.

I had friends who delivered at SkyRidge a few years ago and their baby was airlifted to the PSL NICU because SkyRidge couldn't provide the level of care their newborn needed. Not fun for any family.

University of Colorado Health Sciences Center also works closely with Children's Hospital, which is a nice option. My 1st pregnancy was high risk and they did a wonderful job for both me and my daughter

Ask your dr where you live now for a referral. Also, your insurance co. may dictate who you go to. You will get a list. Then you will have to call them and aske about high-risk services. Generally, the suburban hospitals do not do much high risk care.

Marshall or Joyce Gottesfeldt. Marshall comes from a family of women's health care providers, I believe he is with Exempla and Joyce is with Kaiser.

Talking Marshall Gottesfeld

Whoops - I misread the original post. You are looking for an OB not a hospital!

Marshall G. has absolutely NO bedside manner. He's knowledgeable but bland. I personally prefer other doctors in the practice (Rocky Mountain OB/GYN @ SkyRidge and/or Rose Medical).

I see Corinne Dix (excellent OB that provided care for two of my three pregnancies) and Yuko D'Ambrosia is also excellent. Jean Dwinnell is also very good and feisty (love her!) She did my son's circ and delivered my second child.

I hope this post was a bit more helpful!

Default Looking for a good high risk obstetrician..

I have diabetes and high blood pressure and am looking for a Dr. in the Denver area that specializes in high risk pregnancies/patients. Does anyone have any good experiences with any particular Dr? I would like someone who is compassionate and understanding of a new, high-risk, Mom to be and who will welcome a lot of questions, etc. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

What insurance do you have? Which hospitals does this insurance cover?

5280, the magazine comes out with an annual issue having doctors, rate other doctors, check the library for back issues.

I was also high risk, 32 with diabetes. Marshall did a fine job, as my daughter is now 11. Marshall is now with Kaiser. I now see Susan Junghag at Skyridge.

Thank you for responding. I have Cigna Open Access Plus and just checked their website and can pretty much go to any hospital. I did make an appointment with Rocky Mountain OB/GYN office at Skyridge with a Dr. Bridget Walsh so I guess I will see what she says after our consultation. The receptionist did say that if they feel that can't handle a pregnancy with my issues that they would send me to someone else so that was reassuring. Which hospital did you deliver at? My gynecologist said that I should go to PSL b/c they have a whole high risk pregnancy floor. I think the Dr. I am seeing has privileges at Rose and Skyridge so not sure how those hospitals compare. Any other thoughts would be helpful. Thanks!

Rose is a highly regarded OB hospital. Sky Ridge is a community hospital, and as such, probably doesn't see much high risk, especially at the highest risk levels. I hate to say "trust your doctor", but it is usually the case that if they feel they are in over their heads, they will refer you out. (I do feel you should trust your doc by the way, but you have to feel comfortable about him/her.)

BTW, does your gyn have any recommendations for OBs? I take recommendations from other docs very highly.
