Actually, I don't mind the green, but my perception of that part of Colorado was that it was more desert. Not sure where I got that from, so I may need to do a bit more research of the area. I currently live around so much green (Ohio Valley) that it makes me yearn for something a bit more barren and rocky.

Compared to the Ohio Valley it is not that kind of green and I am sure you will think the Rocky Mt region barren in comparison. Colorado has prairie/plains away from the mts. and even high prairies/plains in the mts. But where there is irrigation, it is green. And it is green of coarse where water runs either above or under the surface. Colorado is semi- arrid. But not classified as any desert. They have less rainfall than we do. There are places in eastern Colorado that farm without irrigation. Mostly grains. As far as I know, no map or any other information source shows any place in Co. desinatnated as desert. So if you are looking for a desert type of country. Colorado is not it. Close maybe especially when we were in drought. Got sand dunes tho.

You spelled correctly--Spanish--Blood of Christ. Yes I know that there are states with so much humidity you cannot breath. I like to be out and about and do without having to change clothes several times a day, summer can be miserable enough without that. As you may have figured. I don't like heat, I don't do well in heat. Fall and Spring are my favorite and winter next. Anytime it gets above 80 degrees-------not my love. That is part of the reason I like the mts and being close to them. Damp cold penatrates until no matter what you do, you freeze, ice storms too. Nope, I think I will stay here. Each unto his own as they say. Good thing we don't all like the same thing. Then we really would be living in each others pockets. Bad enough as it is.

You said you have driven thro the Sangre De Cristos. May I ask where and how. to the best of my knowledge there is only a very few places you can get up and over Sangres and that is by walking, horseback on couple and maybe jeeping a couple. As to anything else, you can only drive around the ends. So where did you do it? I think you are confusing the Sangres with somewhere else.-----Good pictures Nadine. I have not gotten up there yet this Spring. Good to see and hear that it seems to be recovering.

Yeah, I don't know why I had this idea it was more desert. But that's okay, because it's not that I'm specifically looking for a desert environment, as much as I'm simply wanting something different from where I currently live.

And I think those sand dunes would be really neat to check out.

They are fascinating. They are so out of place it seems. East side of the Sangres in the San Louis Valley.
