I am thinking about taking a job in SW denver- Littleton area, where are the best schools and good family oriented neighborhoods? I have a kid in middle school, she does not want to move. Got any advice I can help convince her? also, how much is gas there?

Littleton itself is a great family oriented area -- no need to look to commute.

I did move around considerably when I was a kid. The older the kids are, the harder. I never resisted or cared about a move until I was right before sixth grade, but even then within a month or two I was very happy in the new spot. I do think it's good for the kid to have a stable 4-year high school experience, so if you can move and get settled in before the beginning of 9th grade, that would be ideal. You could point out to your kid that when she starts high school at 9th grade, it's all going to be a new and different experience anyway, even if no move is involved.

I think that gas is around $3.25/gallon for unleaded regular, plus or minus about $0.20. It keeps going up, too.

Gas is average--$3.29

Littleton is one of the most spectacular parts of the metro area and really the entire state. It has great schools, great neighborhoods, great people, and plenty of things to do--both indoors and out. It has some of the metro area's best churches and the town is totally geared to families with children. It is the essence of America. When you think 1950s Mayberry--Littleton may be as close as you get.

Your daughter will get over it. She'll make new friends and discover the blessings of growing up in Colorado. She'll cry and complain, of course. That's what adolescent girls do. But she'll be grateful at the end of the day.

My advice is to find a good church--of which there are many across the metro area. That will give your family--especially your daughter--a good atmosphere to meet new people and feel more welcome in the new area. If you'd like a few good churches I can give them to you.

Good luck! You're going to love it here.

Colorado is a wonderful place to live. We have great weather, great schools. Skiing is just an hour drive away. You would best be advised to visit if you are contemplating the move. Good luck with your decision.

My family and I moved to Louisville near Boulder last year. We were most concerned about our 13yo son. Well after a year, he's doing great. He has made so many new friends. We all love it here and so will you and your family.
