Default Is Lakewood safe for a single woman?

I am currently looking to move from California to Colorado. I heard the city of Lakewood is a middle class area and is safe. Is this true? I am also wondering if renting is affordable.

No place in the world is 100% safe.

However, there are many areas of metro Denver where many single women live comfortably. I would certainly consider Lakewood to be one of those areas where a single woman could live, although it is not without its higher crime areas (eastern Lakewood would tend to be less safe than western Lakewood).

If safety is your chief concern, I would certainly visit an area before commiting to anything. Certainly any apartment unit should be looked over thoroughly before signing anything, so you'll need to visit the area anyways. If it looks OK in the day, you might consider visiting again at night to see if you'd still feel comfortable before signing anything. If you feel uncertain about visiting an area, bring a friend with you for the visits.

Just my 2 cents (as a male I'm not sure how its different for females).

Not sure what single has to do with anything, but my wife went out walking out dog alone in Lakewood without issue or concern for herself (though, to be fair, she's gone through a personal protection course and understands the importance of situational awareness). The area we were in (Wadsworth and 285) was apartment dwellers and McMansion owners, the only non-caucasion folks I remember seeing were the business employees and visitors to the juvenile detention center (jail).

We live in Lakewood and I have yet to feel "unsafe" here... There are some sketchy areas off of Colfax, (right around Garrison and Carr), however coming from Phoenix.. I feel pretty darn safe.. But previous poster was right.. anything can happen anywhere...
