Im a 22year old tattoo artist, and I like to be very active in the art scene and party scene. I like your standard regentrified type areas (ghetto turned good, exposed brick lofts, etc) and the super modern neo style apartments over malls, etc. I have been to Denver once or twic and ended up at the 16th street mall (sick!). what other areas are the hotspots? thanks in advance!

You'd have much more chance of ending up in cookie-cutter suburbia than in a favela!

THere's not much of an art scene in Denver. The art district is Santa Fe Drive from about 7th street to 12th street.

The hip part of Denver with lots of nightlife would be Colfax avenue which has lots of lounges, young people, nightclubs. Also south Broadway.

Have fun.

i would second south broadway. i live near 1rst and broadway and there are lots of clubs, tattoo parlors, head shops, etc. check out 3 kings tavern if you're into the punk/metal scene or sputniks for the hipster dive.

so where exactly are the boundaries of "south" broadway... i just moved here not long ago, and i am around 1st ave just south of speer. Would south broadway be more closer to I-25 and Wash Park area? From what i have seen, there are bars, etc pretty much all along broadway. And you say Sputnik is a hipster kind of place? That is great news, i would probably fit right in there... What else can you tell me about that place? i was at a place called "The hornet" a week or so ago, i thought it was a great place to grab a few drinks. lots of good looking, diverse crowd and plenty of young people after the kitchen closes come in to grab some beer. Waitress was super cool. fairly cheap drinks too! i think i got a stella for like 2 bucks which is not bad at all. There was also a littl tiny bar called Daughertys or something. Looked packed when i walked by, but it seemed to be lots of college students.

any other good places like that i might like? gratsie~

It irritates me that things are cheaper in Denver than Grand Junction. Example: the cheapest small vanilla latte that I can buy in GJ is $3.12. Most of them are $3.50+ for a small and there's one place that sells them for $4. Last time I was in Denver I stopped in some random coffee house and got one for $2.

Sounds like you found the neighborhood. S.Broadway is generally between first ave and alameda. sputnik's is at broadway and ellsworth. it's divided into a bar/restaurant and a club (hidive) with music most nights. The place reminds me of the bars you'd find in the lower east side of NYC. The restaurant actually has really good food and weekends is a busy brunch with bottomless mimosas.

Also, since you are in the neighborhood, be sure to check out the UMS this summer- The UMS

Are you serious about Punk/Metal?.both scenes were put to death over two decades ago. I'm 42 years old.. I remember when it was hip..now not so much.. I had piercings and tattoos many moons ago, frequented head shops before they became seriously passe' . Kind of in the same realm as the Dandy Warhols ..Heroin is so Passe' or Jane's addiction Nothing's Shocking...that form of hip is so dated..Want to do something truly underground these days? Make lots of money and keep it legally.. But seriously Denver's a great city..just wouldn't describe it is exactly hip...Even an old House DJ loving relic like myself knows that...for the OP..hang out in Boulder..the only hip city on the front range....Boulder's where the hip still meets the trip..

Dude what? Boulder is full of hippies and Californian's, but it certainly is not hip unless you are either one. Finding a 'hip' place in Boulder would be like searching for one in Cherry Creek. You can find expensive places and you can find even more expensive places, and then some mediocre sushi, that is all.

To the OP, check out the Streets of London on Colfax, don't miss the Lions Lair, Satire and even the Squire Lounge. All within a few blocks of one another.

Downtown has a few places that are interesting. Double Daughters has been around for ever and is a central location. Benders, the 'Pec (El Chapultepec) is a don't miss. Gabor's, Lancer Lounge and the Hi-Dive are some good dive bars to round out the list. The Garage in the Golden Triangle, Beatrice and Woodsley on south broadway for a more high brow experience. There are simply too many places to list without sitting here for a good half hour and boring you. Explore.

Off topic question: Is the sushi better in Boulder or Grand Junction?
