I kind of like the gritty old name "Commerce City," but understand why some would want to change it to something more palatable. I have heard that some of the newer subdivisions on the northeastern part of the city are quite nice, and I'm thrilled to see the clean-up of the Rocky Mountain Arsenal and how that is becoming a giant wildlife refuge for bison.

Just an update, the residents voted yesterday and the name Commerce City will stay unchanged.

A good majority of my life was spent in Commerce city and believe me when I tell you that Commerce City is not a good choice. I lived in Commerce City from the age of 5 till I was 17 and granetd they did make a couple small changes towards the better but for the most part they have gone down hill. It is a centralized point for illegal aliens as well as a hub for drugs. It also still stinks when you get to the entry points of Commerce City. You'd figure they would do something about the stench. I mean it's been what, at least 31 years that I know of that it has smelled soooooo bad. Sorry for all the bad news, but it's best ya get the bad with the good.

I'm supposed to move from Alberta Canada to work in Suncor's Commerce City Refinery. I would really like to know if I should live in Denver and commute? How long does it take to get there from Denver? I've got a 5 yr old and a 10 yr old. I NEED to play hockey and so do my kids and I don't think Commerce City has a rink???? All the info I could get would be great! If you can e-mail me I would appreciate it. Not sure if I'll find this page again

Nice try. If you should decide to commute, you might consider the area near Ralston road and Wadsworth. There's a rec center there that may have hockey. I think that might be in Arvada (may even be in an unincorporated area, I'm not sure). I've got an old work buddy (nicknamed me McGowdog, or Hound Dog) who lives near Ralston and Wads and he drives to a place near Commerce City every day.
What you don't do is use the gps. You head south on Wadsworth to 44th east to Pecos, north to 70th east (which becomes 74th-also called 224, I think) to Brighton Blvd (or Hwy 6), then south to 72nd, east into Commerce City.
That's what I think.

Probably easiest to commute there from northeast Denver: for example, the Stapleton neighborhood in Denver. Maybe 10 minutes tops. You could also try the Park Hill neighborhood. Both would be good choices of neighborhoods in Denver.

Hyland Hills in the Westminster area has a hockey rink and a team program. It's not ridiculously far from Commerce City, both are in the north area. You should probably google "hockey Denver" or some such to find out what's around here.

I believe the Lowry area has a rink. It used to be a air force base but was closed and developed residential. That commute might not be too bad. 6th ave. goes right through Lowry and right near the rink. Dayton borders the east and Quebec borders the west. I would definately not live in Commerce City.
