We really do not want to live in Aurora, even more than we don't want to live in Glendale...

I would suggest checking out places like Covington apts (directly north on Evans from DU),
THE COVINGTON ON CHERRY CREEK :: DENVER, CO :: HAPPY TO BE HOME™ :: CARMEL APARTMENTS
Highline on Cherry Creek
Highline on Cherry Creek Luxury 1, 2 & 3 Bedroom Apartments | Denver
Arapahoe Club (large floor plans)

Those 3 places have W&D hookups, garages (usually for extra $, but total should be within or well under your budget) and are directly on the Cherry Creek bikepath (as are the Heritage apts mentioned earlier). Heritage apts in Glendale do look very nice, but a bit tricky to get to due to the traffic patterns.

You're in luck, then. One is in Denver proper and the other is in unincorporated Arapahoe County.

Please explain how easily you can write off an entire city of 300,000.

all the above mentioned apartments are in Denver proper (although they are very close to the Aurora border).

By recommendation of family who lives in Denver, Denver subburbs, and Aurora. They all say the same thing:

"Don't like in Aurora. You will be much happier in Denver."

It's not meant as a slight to everyone who DOES enjoy Aurora. I'm 23 and looking for a very specific type of experience in my first housing choice in Denver.

I was 23 when I moved to Aurora. I must have made a mistake.

Okay, I'm done joshing.

$1750 will get you a lot around here, in fact, it's probably much more than you need to spend to get what you're looking for.

But it will be hard to meet all of your requirements, most people looking for the ability to walk to social things/restaurants don't have washers and dryers and garages and gates.

I would immediately throw Cherry Creek out the window. Elaine Ulick lives there (first person to catch the reference gets a rep point). It's geared towards rich old ladies.

If you want to walk to restaurants/bars stay as close to Colfax or Broadway as possible. City Park West and Capitol Hill are "where it's at" for more urban living. Washington Park is only cool if you like people watching you run, it's where the beautiful people go to be seen. I don't know Platt Park too well, but it seems sleepy. I don't find the DU area to be particularly happening either (I'd think things to do would be more limited in those areas).

I'd keep my borders set at 23rd Ave to the north, Colorado Blvd to the east, Yale to the south, and MOL Broadway to the west. There's something for you within those borders, though Highlands might work for you as well.

Another option is to go with an apartment complex close to where you need to be and only sign a short term lease so you have two or three months to get a better feel for the area. It's a pain to move twice in a short period of time, but it is what I did when I first moved to Denver.

I lived at the Sonata at Cherry Creek (right near Glendale and I had NO problems -- in fact, it's across the creek from Heritage Creek Apartments) for three months and then moved to the complex I'm at right now. The Sonata is close to everything and within walking distance of the Super Target and next door to the Bull & Bush Pub.

You will compromise character a bit, but something like that is an option. It's still in the city and offers short term leases, and I think allows cats too.

When I was looking for an apartment, I stumbled upon this site, HotPads - Map Search for Real Estate, Apartments & Houses for Rent, Foreclosures and Homes for Sale. It's a listing of housing rentals or sales that are on an interactive map of Colorado. There are many different features and you can narrow down your search a lot. I hope this helps you. It helped me a great deal.
