Default Moving to Denver / Parker area, Military Move.

My wife and I are moving on Military orders to Buckley AFB. We're inclined to live off base and thinking about Parker Colorado.

We're thinking of renting a house and our budget is around $1300, what do you think we can get for this much?

Any other good areas around Buckley worth looking into?

Thank you

Ruben

Aurora is underrated. There are some very good areas that will be a 5-10 minute drive.

Parker is probably more of a 30 minute drive, and I'm not sure what you get from living out there you can't get in a good Aurora area.

I agree with GeorgiaT. Is there something specifically about Parker that is appealing to you? Don't get me wrong, it's a great place, but you'll be looking at a fairly significant commute.

Based on my experience you should be able to find a nice starter house type for that amount, probably something bigger in the older portions on the northern end of the city(which would make the commute decidedly better)

Parker Road is heavily congested. Better live closer to work. Look in SE Denver, Aurora to start.

What types of amenities/neighborhoods would be attractive to you? Will schools be an issue? If so, SE Aurora has an excellent school system and you may be able to rent a nice, newer home with a small yard for that amount. And the commute will be much easier than coming from Parker. Good luck and welcome to Denver!

Lots of neighbors of mine and a good friend are all military stationed at Buckley. We're in SE Aurora (Saddle Rock Ridge). You can IM me if you like as I have a good friend whose husband is a Marine and they are getting ready to leave for California. Last I checked, they are looking to rent and their house is very nice...4 bedrooms, finished basement, nice yard, easy walk to schools, etc. It's not on the market yet (my friend is wanting to paint the walls first) but it will be in the next month or so. Also, check on militarybyowner.com as there are lot of homes for sale/rent by military members who want to rent to other military.

I like Parker a lot. I think it's a great city but it IS a ways away from Buckley, unless you live right on the 470 and Parker Rd. Most neighborhoods are well within the city and you've got your choice between 2 very congested thoroughfares. You'd be better off checking out Centennial and SE Aurora for homes to rent. Both have easy access to Buckley with a variety of roads that will get you there (without taking the 470), both have low crime rates, good schools, and a variety of good homes available in all price ranges. Your price range is reasonable and should be able to get you a decent house.

Isn't it illegal to selectively rent like that, at least overtly?

I don't have any idea. It's a website with a .com after it so I am assuming they don't break the rules. Most people in the military know about it (I got the website from the housing office at our base in Florida) and it's a good way to find people (homes are listed under military bases and not cities). I'm sure if there is someone not in the military who wants to access the site, a renter could call the people with the house...it's just geared towards military families with the understanding that military families usually are looking to rent and may have to move on very short notice.

BTW, I just went to the website and found this under the FAQs:

Q. Do you have to be military in order to use this service?
A. No. MilitaryByOwner was created to help military families advertise and find homes near their next duty station. Our marketing efforts are directed only to the military, but we do not restrict access to the site.
