Can 350k buy a nice place in Denver ?
Hi all
Im in NYC right now and Denver is on my list of top 3 places I want to relocate to (The others are Raleigh/Durham in NC or just back home to the burbs of Philadelphia.)
I don't want to rent, I would like to buy a small home in a good area of Denver.
I have already spent a lot of time researching Denver and it looks like Highlands, City Park, Congress Park & Cherry Creek have nice homes.
Are all of these areas safe ?
Im a single girl, very petite so I want a safe area to buy in.
Besides safety, can 350-400k buy a home Id like in these areas ?
Thanks

What kind of home do you like? modern, mid-century, victorian?
Look in Cory-Merril, Bonnie Brae, Wash Park, Hilltop, Mayfair...

I like Victorians a lot. Also Craftmans type homes.
One reason I'm actually leaning towards Denver for relocation.

You can buy a property in an old Denver neighborhood for what you want. Being petite actually is good in an older home, as people were smaller back then. Stairways and doorways tend to be shorter than todays new structures.
Denver is in a buyers market, but the best properties still go quickly.
Remember to get the property inspected....and spend the extra money and get the sewer scoped.

Cherry Creek and Highlands Ranch are very nice, safe, family oriented places to live. There are tons of young adults (25-35) in these areas and tons of activities to do. The cost of living is really high though, so take that into consideration when looking at houses. I would check out Highlands Ranch first, you can get a really nice home for your price range and it's very safe!

Sleek, in your case I wouldn't suggest Highlands Ranch. It sounds like you are looking for an older home right? The oldest homes in HR were built in 1981 so that won't safisfy that requirement. Also you are looking to spend $350k to $400k, in HR you are going to find a huge house, not one fit for one or two people. Yes zen4all is right, HR is very family oriented. Of course this translates into not for single people. There are lots of activities to do, but most of them are for families, not singles. You are much better off staying in Denver. Zen4all is right, you will get more house for your money in HR, but some people don't want that, and I don't think you are one of those people.
Cherry Creek, Congress Park and all the places that 2bindenver mentioned would be excellent places to look. Highlands and City Park have beautiful homes but aren't the safest places (especially for a single female).

Downtown Proximity, Views Lure Diverse Mix, from the Denver Post, reports that Sloan's Lake boasts a "rich mixture of young professionals looking for starter homes, aging boomers looking to downsize, old-timers who never left, a smaller-but-still present Jewish population and a large group of Hispanic residents." With a median home price of $247,000 and an average square footage of 1,000, these often dated homes are sometimes scraped or popped as allowed by R-2 zoning. Buyers are often attracted to the million-dollar views of Sloan's Lake, the Front Range and downtown. While underperforming schools is often a complaint, improvements are in the works.

ROFL. Great dry sense of humor.
Thanks for the other info. I've noticed that is a buyer's market in Denver in certain ways.
But if a property is in a 'popular' area is priced well it goes really fast.
I get a daily hot sheet updating places Ive seen online and the all the ones I've thought were cute and good deals were under contract within a couple weeks.

yep a good realtor with a email alert program certainly helps to understand the market and how fast properties go or get reduced.
