Nobody said it was spectacular. But to assume the entire eastside is trash, based on one apartment complex, is not only foolish it's false.

I have lived on the East side for many many years through of my life. I agree there are several parts of the east side that have high crime. There are parts of the eastside that are not so bad however. I used to live acrossed the street at the Maple lane apt.s they were really nice and never had any problems there. I also used to live on E. Tiffin off of E. 29th and that area is pretty quiet and I thought was a good area on the east side. I guess everyone prefers certain parts of town over the other. I happen to think as a whole eastsiders are more down to earth and more caring people. I happen to feel that there are worse areas in the Desmoines area to live than the east side, but that is just my opinion, to each there own. I do however recommend Altoona. I currently live in Altoona and it is a very nice community. Pleasant Hill is also a very great place to live if you ask me!

We lived on the east side of Des Moines for 3 years (one block off E. 14th, not far from Union Park) and the only problem we ran into was some kids spray-painting gang signs on the back of our garage once. Our neighbors were nice. The houses were old around there, but people kept them up for the most part.
