Very good news! DM seems to land in several of the Forbes' "Bests" lists.

Quote:
Des Moines has landed another honor on a Forbes best-of list: No. 2 nationally of the best cities for jobs.
Iowa’s capital city was second to Washington, D.C., on the list that came out today. Madison, Wis., was fifth; Omaha, seventh; and Minneapolis, ninth.
“Relatively high household incomes and a low unemployment rate mean this capital city five-and-a-half hours west of Chicago is primed to add good jobs that newcomers can fill. Moody’s Analytics, which compiled all the projections for this survey, estimates Des Moines-area employment will increase by 8.6% or 36,000 jobs to 461,000 by the end of 2016.”
Forbes explained that it based rankings on unemployment rate, household income and projected job growth, and gave extra weight to cities with high and rising median household incomes.

Des Moines is an anamoly in Iowa. This city definately bucks the trend that rural Iowa has fallen into in the past couple decades. Even going as far as to make national headlines multiple times in the past.

Add Iowa City/Cedar Rapids, Dubuque and maybe Council Bluffs and you pretty much have the 3-4 regions in the state that are keeping everything afloat and cancelling out the negatives from the rest.
