It was only serious and uptight when you lived here.

Des Moines would easily win across-the-board.

As I mentioned previously, we are used to conservative. Not a big deal, people are people and you make the most of what you get or seek to do something different if it doesn't fit. Everyone we've met so far have been very welcoming, accommodating and helpful. I expect the trend to continue.

This morning we toured Grinnell College. Nice place, but not a good fit for our daughter. Had lunch at Zombie Burger today with the kids and headed to some taco joint for dinner tonight before taking the boys to an AAU Basketball team tryout. Took them on a tour of their Junior High School and met the boys basketball coach. All very attentive and full of information to help us get acclimated. Tomorrow we your Valley and meet with my daughters counselor, then meeting some HS girls at the mall after school. Friday morning we are off to Iowa City to tour the College and we have dinner plans with another family who has 4 kids and we are looking forward to getting to know them.

Although we've toured some homes and townhomes, we still haven't found a place that fits our needs just yet. However, I am hopeful. Great trip so far!

It's really not conservative. Parts of West Des Moines are pretty conservative in a normal suburban way and the rest of the city certainly isn't San Francisco or Minneapolis, but it's not a conservative city. Actually it's quite a liberal city comparatively. RonnieJonez just likes to get people riled up.

Glad you're having a good time so far.

Thanks! It's been a lot of fun. Hope to squeeze in some roller skating tomorrow with the kiddies. Any suggestions?

How about ice skating? Weather should be perfect tomorrow. Brenton Ice Skating Plaza is located downtown along the riverwalk .

I think they're actually closed for the summer by now (it's an outdoor rink).
