Lol, then downtown Des Moines ranks above NY & LA in terms of being an emerging downtown.

There's no particular ranking. It's just a list of cities that have improved their downtown core recently. Notice these sorts of lists are constantly reshuffled. They are also not taken seriously in most places and you won't find the same excitement over them.

Des Moines motto should be "where everyone can be mayor". In all seriousness, that would be very accurate.

It is "emerging", get it? Why would you even mention NY (or LA) when discussing emerging downtowns....even as a joke. Makes no sense.

^New York and LA are both on the list, but I can actually understand both of them. LA's powerhouse areas are outside of downtown and hardly anyone actually lives in downtown Manhattan.

Thanks for your reference to the word "Emerging" as the basis for the Forbes article. That seeems to have been overlooked, eh?
My last visit back up to Des Moines was an eyeopener & the first in around 20 years. My observation at that time was that if the region had given off such a progressive vibe & been so visually improved years ago, I never would have left it & Iowa in 1979. My hope is to return when I retire whereupon I can leave the mess of 5.5 million population metro behind me.
Hats off to the forward momentum & revitalization of the city!

Altoona seems to be taking the lead with Facebook building a $1 Billion dollar data center there.

If I recall correctly that is the new one that is powered entirely by wind energy or at least a large percentage of renewable power? I have a big problem with data centers coming to places and then eating up a large chunk of demand from the baseload grid, causing greedy utilities to raise rates. Data centers should have their own power sources lined up in advance.
