The Des Moines City Council voted 4 to 2 to close Hull Avenue at the railroad tracks by Delaware.

Every time I see this kind of crap I'm glad I moved out.

According to the actions (past and present) of the city council if you don't live west of the river you're scum and not worth considering.

I don't understand this. What is reason?

I never go that way, so it doesn't effect me. There are many other ways across that part of town that are easier to navigate, IMO. They have had the road torn up just west of there for awhile, and Hull itself is very narrow in that area (which is why I don't take it that way)

They are doing to allow easier access for trains. What? Have you ever seen a train give the right of way to a car?

When we lived over there we used Hull Avenue a lot for travel. It was a busy street then and I suppose it still is, although I don't know that for certain.

If this was a controversy on the west side (Are there any train tracks on the west side?) the street would stay open.

They're doing (have done?) the same thing at east 34th where the tracks run into town. There aren't many ways across the tracks out there - I know because that crossing was at the far corner of the acreage I grew up on, and closing 34th is going to cause some major headaches for the residents in the area.

But no one on the city council lives anywhere near these locations so they don't give a damn.

I've rarely seen traffic on Hull east of Grand View. I never take Hull farther than the UPS place myself. If I need to go that way I stick to Euclid or Guthrie.
