Leones was on the corner of Sw9th & Davis. I bet you were reminiscing about Barattas! I love them and grew up on the block. Barattas is on the corner SouthUnion & Kirkwood in a very hilly neighborhood on Des Moines southside. Still rembember building snowforts in restaurant parking lot and sledding w/owners grandson(they lived next door).Yes it is still there but sold from the original family over 10yrs ago now. The new owners also opened a bistro Barattas in the Iowa historical building downtown. Cavatelli w/garlicbread, Lasagna, Chicken Cacciotorie, Oh My the MeatBalls, Salad soups & sauces were amazing in the good ol days!!

This sounds like the old Italian restaurant called Rose's. It was across from McCrea Park on SW 9th on a corner and it was a hilly neighborhood. I believe it closed it the 90's. My husband & I used to enjoy going there often for the Ma & Pa atmosphere and excellent food; we still miss it.

This neighborhood description sounds like the old Rose's or maybe it was called LaRosa's on SW 9th across from McCrea Park. It was on a corner and it was a hilly area. I believe it closed in the 90's. It was a ma & pa quaint place with delicious Italian food.
