Valley Junction is very nice.
I would say that the Drake and other North-side neighborhoods have seen some of the biggest improvements in the past few years. Houses are getting built or renovated in those neighborhoods everyday. Outside of maybe two, three neighborhoods that could be declining, most of the neighborhoods in the city have improved greatly in the last two decades or so.

Thank you for all the help so far! As we learn more, it appears that the potential workplace would be near I-80 / the Jordan Creek Town Center. How does this affect your recommendations?

I'm also interested in rental information, since we'd likely be renting for at least a year or two. Is there a rental market out that way? We'd be looking for a SF home, or at least a townhouse, preferably not an apartment. There doesn't seem to be much online for rentals. Is it more of a "sign in the yard" type market?

In that area, I doubt there are many SF homes for rent. I would assume you could find some townhomes via Craigslist. There are a ton of new apartments being built in the area....a TON.

Thanks. I've been looking at Craigslist but as you said, seeing lots of apartments. One of our children has special needs and can be very loud - I think if we have to live in an apartment my spare time will all be spent apologizing to the neighbors!

Actually, on that topic, are there any schools / districts that are noted for handling special needs well (or poorly)? He is not in Special Ed, but he does require some extra accommodations for both health and behavior.
