Hello people of Des Moines,

Me and a few of my friends are taking a short (long weekend) road trip to an accessible smaller city in relation to the Twin Cities. Des Moines is sounding like where we will be going, and we plan to stay at an airbnb. We are all upper 20's men/women and I'm sure we will be able to find fun no matter what.

I would like to pose the question though - what part of town would you recommend staying in? I think we would benefit from an area that is walkable to bars, music, parks, or just interesting things to see on a walk in general. Some of the group has spent a little bit of time there, but most of us have probably just driven through. What areas would be good for a young group looking to check out the town for a weekend (in December)?

East Village might be of interest. I'm not real familiar with the airbnb scene around there, but lots of fun places to eat, drink and be merry!

I would probably focus on downtown Des Moines. Unsure of the Airbnb situation there but there are ample bars/restaurants to walk to. Unfortunately Des Moines is not set up like many other big, metro cities with a true "nightlife district."
