I'm from Des Moines and many posters on CD live there. Any questions?

Haha, that randomly reminded me of when I moved away from Iowa and would hear:

"You're from Iowa!? My old roommate's girlfriend was from there. Do you know Shelly Carlson????"

I'd have to be like....well....it's actually a pretty big state. As if everyone ALL gets together on Wednesday nights or something.

o.k. here goes:
I've been told (by a number of individuals, in-person not online) that "everybody" has substance-abuse issues & all of the problems associated with them...

so I'd like to know if these particular individuals were only speaking for themselves & the "everybodys" they associate with- or is it an actual fact in this locale?

yes... is it true that basically the entire adult-aged population in Iowa (& DSM specifically) is wacked-out from drug addictions... or were those who have told me that only lying to cover themselves?

Nothing could be further from the truth. Sure there is drug use, but not everyone does it. You do realize that the DSM metro is around 500,000, and Iowa's population is around 4 million? That would be an aweful lot of users wondering around.

please don't take this wrong, as I'm not trying to jab at anyone, but so far you two posters have been the only people saying that what I've been told is wrong, so I'm hoping that means I've "been in the wrong places, & meeting the wrong people"...

in the entire time I've been in Des Moines, everyone I've known has either been drug users or very messed-up from former drug use... not only is it very difficult because I can't relate to that kind of lifestyle, but people who "chose" that lifestyle resent me intensely because I didn't...

so if there are "just basically average" people in DSM, where are they? (please note I'm not looking for 'dates' or anything like that, just other average employed people who can communicate beyond "drug histories"& "Programs."

Is this thread some type of joke? I can't believe these are serious questions.

I think it is time to at least put out the yellow flag for "caution....possible troll here".
