Default Snow cover in the Des Moines area?

We want to get some golf in during the kids' spring break but want to make it as short of a drive as possible (coming from Minnesota). What is the snow cover like in Des Moines? Just trying to estimate the chances of golf courses being open the week of March 22nd.

I thought I heard the weather gal say it should be gone by this Saturday. That said, we have had rain and more is expected so I'm not sure the courses will be able to dry off enough to open by March 22. You might want to call your golf course of choice (or see if they have a website) to see if they provided any expected opening date.

Right now the website says they are monitoring the weather conditions and will open as soon as possible.

I don't know if you should plan on it, we were completely covered until last week. There are still a ton of huge patches, especially where drifts were.

Thanks--maybe if you get a couple weeks of windy, 70 weather they will be open.

You could detour over to the Quad Cities. Hidden Hills is open year round. Our snow is pretty much gone already, also.

Thanks for the suggestion. That is about 2 hours further for us to drive though (and the course doesn't look all that nice-sorry). We have an option to go to Missouri and stay with family too, the Des Moines drive is only a little over 3 hours so that is why we where hoping to go there.

I was mostly joking, as I always enjoy pointing out when things are available here that aren't in DSM. Although actually, it looks like Des Moines does have a course open year round. Check out the website for Jester Park Golf Course in Granger.

Hidden Hills isn't a great course, but its usually fairly quiet, and it does have that year-round advantage.

I'll keep that in mind if we get desperate, thanks.
