I agree. Detroit is still the mother city, and reason for the existence of suburbs like Livonia. Metro Detroit can no longer be the "dounut region" (w/ Detroit being the hole) anymore, and hope that the region can remain healthy merely by having the suburbs shutting themselves off to Detroit. Look at Chicago, which has a suburban mass twice the size of Detroit's. And yet, all of those suburbs maintain strength because the mother city, Chicago, continues to shine... and Chicago's excellent mass transit helps. Commuters hop on the Metra trains, or sometimes the ends of the el lines, and ride into downtown Chicago...

It's not as bleak, burdensome and gas-guzzling as some Detroit suburbanites make it seem. Quicken should be applauded in its move (note also: founder/CEO Dan Gilbert is also one of the group of business owners investing in the Woodward light rail project as well... Dan truely "gets it."
