It used to be called East Detroit, but they were trying to distance themselves from Detroit as much as they could.
So you found some anecdotal evidence that Grand Rapids has a couple of empty machine shops and a homeless guy. Ouch. Case closed.

Actually you're wrong. Detroit city workers did not live in Eastpointe in the early 90's because there was a law that required Detroit city workers to live in the city of Detroit then. They changed their name because people would confuse it with the east side of Detroit.
