One thing that can cause racial tension is the assumption that racial tension is the same thing as racism. For instance, I don't believe white people are superior to black people, but I do have very strong feelings against affirmative action. If I met a black person who received a job or promotion ahead of me when I tested 20 points higher than them on a civil service test (for example), and we talked about who was more deserving of the job, there would likely be some racial tension there.

Bottom line is affirmative action is supposed to give a boost to a generally equally qualified minority (or woman) candidate. In terms of race, white males have dominated and given lesser qualified white males the leg up for centuries -- come on, your'e going to tell me an ignorant boob like Geo W. Bush is qualified to be President? (and yet a super qualified candidate like Barack Obama probably can't win because of the color of HIS skin)... was qualified to go to Yale or Harvard B. School? C'mon. AA was designed to level the playing field, not give slots to unqualified blacks, as the popular myth goes.

I'm not in a union and I work in nice conditions and am treated decently. What you say may have been true 70 years ago, but not hardly today. There are so many regulations in the US now that unions exist only to extract the most amount of money out of their employers.

Do a FOIA reqeust for City of Detroit records from the 70's until a couple years ago. It's not that extreme. And even if it was, what's fair, give the promotion I earned to the guy who scored 10 points lower than me? How about giving the job to someone who can barely read or write? I've seen that plenty of times. And we all know what AA was SUPPOSED to do, and lots of us know what it DID do. As far as white people taking care of less qualified white people, I hardly think that was based on nothing more than race. Friendships, church affiliations, whatever. In a city that's 90% black, blacks have the same advantages in that arena, so I see no need for AA. Neither did the courts, apparently.

Regardless of how much you hate AA or how much you may want to stretch the truth, AA is not about the buisiness of giving unqualified Blacks jobs and admissions slots -- if an illiterate black person is hired to a position that requires reading, THAT'S NOT AFFIRMATIVE ACTION. Please remember that.

As I said before, I know what it's SUPPOSED to be about. I also know what it was/is about. In my experience, it was about meeting a "quota" number and the rest be damned. And to do that, they lowered the standards for several demographic groups. It may not have been what AA was ABOUT, but they lowered their standards to the point where it became what AA WAS.

You guys talk about the schools in Detriot I like the FACT that the people who have run the DPS for all those years and they took what $43 Million Dollars by ripping off the schools, I guess AA did work for some Black folks. Or how about, I watched the news the other night about those kids who smashed up their joy ride car they stole, and what got me was one of the neighbors saw these kids earlier in the day racing around and he said "I saw that car go racing down the street and I said that's going to be trouble?" What the Hell!! I would have called the police and gave them the license number off their car but instead the guy did nothing, cause everyone knows that when you live in Detriot you had better not snitch on your HOMIES. this is what is wrong with the people of Detriot no one wants to get involed. and most blacks look the other way, Cause they aint got time! Just like when it comes time to clean up the City, all I ever see is Dumb white people going around and picking up trash that blacks have thrown out, But yet white people are so racist! Whatever, and your thing about Obama he aint nothing more then an undercover Terrorist you watch and see what happens if he gets to be President or maybe Hillary the Can't Understand Normal Thinking yeah! now that's what we need another Clinton in the White House. Now tell me something else about how great Detriot is! Just think about all those Millions of Dollars the school ripped you people off for. The DPS should be taken over by the State since NO ONE knows how to run a school district at least not the people who are in charge. cause they have their hands in the money jar. HA HA!

Who knows about "unqualified," but AA certainly gives jobs and admissions slots to LESSER qualified blacks and hispanics. If it doesn't do that, then what exactly did Proposition 2 outlaw?
