Romeo and Juliet Sex cases compared to Violent Sex Offenders
Do you think that Romeo and Juliet cases (16 yo boy/girl with 15 boy/girl and sex in consensual) should be lumped in the the violent sex offenders that prey on young children, use child pornography, and kidnap?
If it were your son who had sex with his 15 year old girlfriend that you knew about, what would you do? What about if it were your daughter? I ask because so many cities in the Detroit area are making it tougher for convicted and registered sex offenders to be near parks and schools. The problem being that these Romeo and Juliet cases are not exactly the same but they get lumped in there. Warren is considering legislation to change the distance from 500 feet to 100 feet. A few Oakland County cities have already done it. If a registered sex offender moved in next to you, would you find out what happened first or pass immediate judgment?
