They used to play a lot at Kensington at the boat rental rink. That is a long drive, but someimtes players from the MSu team woudl come out from Lansing to practice during breaks, so if it is nto too far for them, it might be reasonable for you.

Kerby field on Kerby near Mack in Grosse Pointe Farms has an outdoor rink they flood complete with boards and a net. Not quite pond but it's outside and free and a good game of stick is usually going on there on the weekends. Just be prepared for a fair amount of middle-schoolers that are faster than I ever was. (at least there used to be, advice is 3 yrs old)

Can't help with the pond, but I do know my husband has played pick up games at the rinks in Troy and Birmingham. He plays in a league at the SCS rink, not sure if they have any ice available for pick ups games. He's also played at the rink in the Farms once with a bunch of guys from his team in SCS.

My friend who lives in Mexicantown told me today that there is an outdoor rink in Clark Park off Vernor where there are pick-up hockey games all the time.
