DETROIT -- The City Council on Friday authorized a public-private partnership to take control of Tiger Stadium with the option of tearing down the historic ballpark.


On a 5-4 vote, the council gave the Detroit Economic Development Corp. the authority to demolish the park.

Why are you starting a poll on this now? It's a done deal. The debate about saving Tigers Stadium has been going on for FAR TOO LONG in my opinion.

Tiger Stadium is a beautiful icon with tons of history, but I'm glad it's going. It's now just another shabby husk of a derilect building -- like the beautiful Michigan Central RR Depot just a few blocks down the street. Too many such buildings still dot Detroit's landscape. Time to move on.

I think it should get demolished, enough of Detroit having to keep theses old historic places. I say, demolish the Michigan Central Station too. it's an eye sore, theres broken windows. people look at that and the crime.

I think they should level Detriot and start a new there isn't anything worth keeping just Cockroachs and Rats like the one in the Mayor's Office and ones on the City Council, Maybe the Mayor could get Habitat for Humanity to come in and build it for FREE. since the Mayor and the City Council don't know how to fix anything only know how the wracking ball works. What a Mayor!!

Of course it should be demolished and sold on Ebay. There is no other alternative now. No money available. It would be a shame to leave it there and turn it into a cheap charicature of its former self.

I believe the best option for Tiger Stadiums fate is the one that Ernie Harwell has now put forth. That is razing the structure to te original Nevin Field size, to keep a baseball field for a possible minor league team and city youth. The next step would be residental and commercial properties on the outside, wit the third being a music and sports museum. I personnally think that would be a great way to make room for new growth, keep the history, as well as adding something unique to the city itself.

I visited Detroit Tiger Stadium back in 1990. It was the best stadium that I have ever been to. It should be saved for future baseball fans as a stadium. Demolition is not a solution. Demolition creates waste, destroys history, and leads to global warming. I hope to see it preserved as a stadium! I visited Detroit just to see the stadium. People come back to city's to see landmarks not new developments. In NewYork City, people remember landmarks such as the Empire State Building, not the next Walgreens are apartment development. Hope to see Tiger Stadium preserved!

Demolish it. Detroit needs another rubble filled lot overgrown with weeds. It is an important feature of the city. Why keep a historic structure that can never be replaced? After all it would cost almost as much to restore it as it will to demolish it.

I regret that my children will never get to see a game on the real tiger stadium, but at least they got the pre-Disnification baseball experience at Dodger stadium.

How many non-Disnified stadiums are left? I think that there may not be more than about a dozen.
