People say that about California all the time - that it should break off into the Pacific and become an island.

But 4/5 of NYC are already islands or on an island!

Bloomberg: U.S. should invite illegals to live, work in Detroit - Washington Times
Anglo-Colonials (Canada, US, Australia, UK, New Zealand, even South Africa) are always looking for a quick fix:
foreigners and immigrants to solve their domestic problems.

Then, after they bring them in, they start blaming them for all sorts of problems.
Bloomberg had just authorized illegal spying of immigrants:
Investigation

His police force watches hate-mongering movies, as part of their "training" and "education" on how to deal with Moslem immigrants in the US.
Something like having your police watch "the Birth of a Nation" as a way of preparing them for dealing with race relations in Metro Detroit.

When American kids don't want to study math and science,
bring in the Chinese and Indians
and blame them for taking our better jobs.

When the birth rate in Canada falls below replacement
bring in the immigrants
and blame them for pricing us out of the real estate market and having too many babies.

When Detroit looks hopeless, like it's beyond repair....
bring in the immigrants....

Isn't it time to look for REAL, indigenous, sustainable solutions to domestic issues
without looking for foreigners to pick our crops, clean our houses, do our accounting.

We can't "manufacture" a better and more sustainable future by increasing our birth rate and building more houses.
Sooner or later we'll have to face a reality
and that reality is a POST-INDUSTRIAL economy in which there simply isn't enough "good" jobs to go around.
That's where the importance of public education, healthcare and public nutrition programs comes in. Even if you don't have a full-time "good" job, if you've been well fed, educated and have access to free basic healthcare,
you have the essential skills to CREATE your own "good" life, anywhere.

Sounds like Bloomberg wants to get rid of his "undesirables" and dump them on somebody else.
Once out of his hands, the clunky task of assimilating these people would no longer be his. One less albatross for him, but another "program" for Detroit to deal with.

We need to immigrate all the jobs that we have allowed to be emigrated to other countries.

I think it's a good idea. Look, I would move to Detroit if I could, but one person at a time moving to Detroit isn't going to work, you'll be eaten alive. I live in the burbs like everyone else...the infrastructure in Detroit is crap, You can ride down Woodward from downtown and it's ok, but forget about wandering back a few blocks. Crime is outta control, the cops can't patrol all that empty land, it's absolutely crazy. You have to bring big groups of people in (safety in numbers) give them a parcel of land for a low rate and let them build a neighborhood, bring them in from all over the world, refugees from everywhere. People running the city now, can't agree on anything or get anything done in the way of moving forward, leave it like it is, it will continue to go downhill. I agree... sweeten the pot for immigrants, and Detroit shall rise again!!

Same goes for refugees - I live in Charlotte and refugees are continuously sent here. The city has grown tremendously in the past decade. I guess sending them to Detroit would be worse than making them live in their war torn homeland, huh?
