Or you can, you know just go to the frigging gated cemetery during daylight and not hang around the neighborhood afterwards. Sheesh, I wonder how people build up the courage to leave the house every day. And yes my wife and I have been to Detroit recently and explored practically every nook and cranny of it.

Having said that, if my kids ever dig my body up because I'm buried outside of their comfort zone, I swear I will haunt them. And I could never imaging doing that to my parents/grandparents because, frankly, I have no right to disrespect where they chose as a final resting place.

Back when City Airport still had SWA didn't they consider expanding the runway right into Mt. Olivet? Of course with all the VIPs buried there I suppose that one was a non starter. Now it's definitely a non starter.

I do remember that now, there was some talk of tearing up Mt Olivet. that's right adjacent to Forest Lawn.

I took SWA in and out of Detroit for awhile, it was closer to where I lived. They've closed City Airport now to passenger traffic, its all just cargo, from what I understand. My last trip home, I took SWA out of Detroit City. As the plane flew off, we flew over the cemetery. Such a sight, I could see my family's graves from the air. I had put orange & yellow blankets on my parents graves, and red & purple on my grandparents graves. It was late afternoon, the setting sun just hit on them, it was like they were waving goodbye. Such a sight!

No, I guess moving their graves wouldn't be such a good idea, just a thought. But, it points out the impractically of burying a person in the first place. its not really a final resting place. When the last relative who remembers is gone, then what? and all real estate eventually get put to other uses. Perhaps best to just be cremated and be done with it!

BTW, my aunt used UPS to send her dh ashes to another state, I guess "don't ask don't tell"
I wouldn't take the chance of her getting lost or broken. I needed some assurance before I would ship her. UPS has insurance up to $100.00 included in their shipping price, I believe.

ummmm....if one really wants to transport ashes, why can't they just drive them? No airport hassles, and try explaining that to security! What good is $100 if Grandma is scattered all over?

so, next summer vacation---have them dig up Grandma's bones. I guess fill in the graves. Cremate them, then I pikc them up at the office, preferably in daylight, don't want to hang around there at night.

Then, pack the ashes in the van, and head back to Texas! See the sights on the way----sounds like a new Chevy Chase movie
