BY the way....I am back in Detroit so am I acceptable?
Thanks for allowing me to share my personal experience and my side of Detroit.
Would hate to think sharing was no longer allowed.
Are those little blips under my name registered complaints?
Gee, I have over 100 complaints?
And to think I have gotten like 15 in the last 4 days..
I must truly be the scourge of the Detroit forum?

Are you new to discussion boards? There's a button near the top of each post where someone can "report post to moderator". And no, the little blips are not the number of complaints.
Welcome back. I ask that everyone share and discuss the issues without calling each other "clueless", "retarded", "idiots", or any other insults.
Thank you and have a nice day.
(FYI, your account has been suspended for 3 days zthatzman for the lovely DM you sent me)

Do I want Detroit to fail? Yes and No.
No--I grew up in the Detroit area and do love Michigan and the metro Detroit area and really do hope that the City of Detroit itself recovers and becomes the next Chicago.
Yes--I think Detroit is going to have to reach rock bottom (in terms of population) before it can be revitalized. I think that the working people of Detroit will need (and want) to relocate to the suburbs and that the chronically poor will need to be dispersed across the U.S. into programs where they can be taught to work and take care of themselves. Then the residential parts of the city will need to be razed along with many old decrepit abandoned commercial buildings. Then the redesign, rebuilding, and gentrification can begin.

There is nothing I would like more than to see Detroit turn around and start to be a place people would love to move to. It breaks my heart to see what has happened in the city.

Never lived in Detroit, never even been to Michigan for that matter. But I always hear bad news about Detroit.
I live in Orlando which even with such explosive population growth is still much smaller then Detroit.
Orlando, Detroit, Hartford, Atlanta, etc I wouldn't want to see any American city fail, especially a city like Detroit which has such an interesting history.
I also support buying American and I cant imagine a world without GM, Chrysler, and Ford. Thats a little hypocritical on my part though considering I bought a Japanese car, which however was built in America.
All I came here to say is I dont want to see any US city fail. Especially Detroit.

Detroit wont turn around till its people do. The people of Detroit dont care about their city or anything, only what the city can do for them. SICK! And then when things go to hell, they vote with their feet. It makes no sense at all!! I've never seen a city with such an inferiority complex. Detroit's decades of this **** poor attitude has led it to its current state. I feel no sympathy for Detroit at all.

I don't know about sympathy but as a resident of the suburbs of Detroit it would be self-defeating for me to wish for Detroit to "fail". The farther down it goes, the farther down it drags the suburbs.

Apparently, Detroit has to fail before it can improve. Did you read the paper today? The city is touting a drop in crime. The reason it LOOKS like there is a drop in crime is because the police response is so inept that people are not REPORTING crimes! They know the cops aren't going to show up anytime soon, so why bother? They may as well rename the Detroit river for another river....De-NILE! The Detroit PD makes an arrest is fewer than 38% of homicides. Well under HALF of homicides result in an arrest, let alone a prosecution, let alone a conviction. Yes, I want Detroit to fail and the state take over. Do it for the children.

Coming from a 30 year previous resident, Detroit is a total disaster... Do I want it to fail?? In terms of what? Its already failed. This city is a perfect example of liberalism run amok. From how people live their lives and think there with the entitlement and victim mentality and who they elect is bewildering. Of course, this isnt all Detroiters but a vast majority, for sure. Weve seen, over the last 35 years or so, a world class city of 2 mil pop. reknown for its hard-working ethics to a total all-out welfare state of under a mil pop. Someone needs to push the rest button.

I agree. I left a year ago and I swear it feels like 10 years when I go back to visit family. It gets worse all the time. EVERY TIME I go back, someone screws with my car. Whether someone tries to break into it or simply dumps soda all over it. The burbs are changing, all the mess is starting to spill over. My mother's home is worth about 20k now. I worry about her constantly.

Okay, I'll bite.
my answer is a resolute NO.
I don't want any city to fail (suburbs, on the other hand...... well, let's say that in my dream world, they get what they deserve), especially one I hold as near and dear as Detroit. It's a great city with a great heritage and a great people, but it needs help. Yet, people still knock it just for fun when it's down, like it's some kind of joy to further hurt the depressed city (trust me, it's a sad game that gets played a lot in Dayton, OH, too). I still think it's gonna come back soon, and when it does, we'll all be in awe.
I'm waiting for that day.
