When I was a kid lots of Appalachian types and 1%er bikers lived in Brightmoor. I still go to Scotty Simpsons, but by the looks of it, the neighborhood is no longer a "community". When I think of a "community" I think of a cohesive geographic area defined by neighbors who take care of each other, take care of their own property (whether they rent or own) and take responsibility for their kids. They also practice the "broken windows" theory to keep blight out. Brightmoor hasn't been a "community" for many, many years. In fact, there are very few communities left in Detroit. You may have some pockets of good neighbors, but as far as geographic areas with the sense of community that I described, there are very, very few left in Detroit.

I grew up on Chapel between Lyndon and Eaton. Haven't been back there in about ten years. Was a good place to grow up. I lived there from 1967-1987. Didn't think Scotty's was open anymore. Definitely worth a trip back there.

Red face Brightmoor reunion

We grew up on Pierson between Davison & Glendale. Went to St. Monica's-Gompers, Harding & Redford 1972 class.

Would LOVE to hear from anyone from that era & will go to reunion----let us know! Down in Georgia for years staying a bit warmer now.
Remember the dances at the community center & the FIGHTS at the church after school??? Hung around Schoolcraft before the express way was built!!!!
