Google maps has finally completed displaying/mapping all of the streets around the west side area of Detroit.

Tell your cousin to go to google.com and type in his old street address city and state and he can take a street tour of the area.

That area looks nice: rosedale park, detroit mi - Google Maps

Looks like your usual old money urban neighborhood in many Northern cities.

Sure, that looks nice. But this is better: Palmer Woods - Google Maps . This is all part of Detroit's cluster of upscale neighborhoods.

Default My 24 years in Brightmoor - as a guest

Came across this site by accident. Having taught in the Brightmoor area for 24 years - from 1968-1992, several of the names on these posts are familiar, former students. Many of the streets and places are familiar also since I spent much of my life in the area.
By the way, I taught at Harding all those years and a couple of my former students still keep in touch. For the most part the area has good memories, and that includes most of my "kids".

That's it for me...

I graduated from Harding in 67 so I just missed you.

The school itself looks in good shape but the neighborhood has
many vacant lots and abandoned homes.

Click on the Google link below to see what Harding looked like 2 years ago.

If I recall correctly Checker Drugs was on Fenkell Avenue and had a bowling alley above it on the second floor. I was a pin setter there for a few months in the 1940's.
