And it's clear you've never actually shopped in a typical Detroit grocery store (and no Honey Bee is not a typical Detroit grocery store, it's the exception). Another poster summed it up well...

Detroit does have independent grocers, but most of them are pretty disgusting/shabby places. God bless the merchants that operate them, because they have figured out a way to serve a vital need in the city while turning a profit, but that doesn't mean that I would shop in one of their establishments. There is a reason why major supermarket chains refrain from Detroit.

The few "nice" grocery stores have higher markups than suburban stores, and the rest are just downright trifling from sub-par meat, rotten produce, expired shelve items, poorly maintained parking lots, poorly cleaned stores, poor brand variety, etc...

Spartan is a food distributor, not a food store chain.

It's true they own chains, but none of the chains they own are in Detroit.

It's also true they distribute food to markets in Detroit, it doesn't mean the markets are a part of a chain.

The very first result is a Family Fare which in your post says is owned by Spartan. Again, Detroit isn't short on groceries.

On Chene. I haven't even lived here a year. I used to live in Harper Woods and believe it or not, the Detroiters had no problem walking across Kelly to the Vegas, or going to the Target at Eastland.

When you said "On Chene", I assume you meant you lived "On Chene."

That said, Most of Detroit's grcoery stores are like Food Town, Sav-Mart, Farmer John, etc. and not Honey Bee, unless you didn't get the memo.

can you or can you not buy groceries from them? I'm sure Cleveland has the lovliest supermarkets imaginable. It's too bad Detroiters couldn't learn to cross a street.
