So i'm planning on moving into my first apartment soon and there is a place in Southfield that is a possibility. I've heard a lot of bad things about the city as far as safety goes but was wondering if it just depends on where. it's right on 12 mile so it's kind of in the northern part but is that not north enough?

That's a fine area. Follow Southfield Rd up a couple miles and you're right in downtown B'Ham. Not bad (i.e. 5 minute drive to coffee shops/walking etc) from 12 Mile - plus you'll be close to Berkley/Royal Oak and convenient to 696.

Might also consider the area bordered by 8 mile to the south, 9 Mile on the north, Inkster on the west and Beech to the east. From there it is a short jump to Farmington.
