Anyone who believes the police chief is a mindless homer. There are shootings and murders in Midtown with regular frequency. Car theft is so regular as to be the norm. Muggings and robberies are not uncommon.

Yes, Midtown (really the Cass Corridor/University Cultural District) is safer than 7 Mile/Hayes, but that doesn't mean it's safe. And "safe as Birmingham"? LOL!

Well look at the crime stats to see who's right and who's wrong. Also, how many more people live and work in Midtown than downtown Birmingham? With a large university, a university that is ranked in the top 50 safest campuses in America.

Well.. Wayne State campus is as safe as Birmingham. All of Midtown? Hell no. There are parts of lower Midtown - stretches of Cass Avenue and much of Brush Park - that most people would consider to be ghetto. As a whole, Midtown is much safer than most of Detroit, and I wouldn't consider it dangerous, but Birmingham is much much safer. Violent crime rates, including shootings/stabbings/murders, are higher in Midtown than in Birmingham. One is an inner city neighborhood, one in a suburban community. Why are we even debating this?

(PS: I'm back)

True enough. It's apples to oranges honestly.
