Default considering moving to highland park MI

I've just gotten a new job in downtown Detroit, and I am about to make the move from cincinatti. The only thing is i dont want to live in detroit, so i've been checking real estate in highland park MI and am astonished by the good prices. Just wondering about the school system and crime around the area, any input would be helpful thanks.

Why? You would be better off living in the safer parts of Detroit like Midtown. If you want to be close but not in the city while being relatively safe at a reasonable cost, look at a place like Ferndale.

You'd be WAY better off in Detroit or Hamtramck than Highland Park.......People who can't afford to get out of crappy areas of Detroit find just a little solace in the fact that at least they're not in Highland Park.

Good post and the!

Look, i don't know where you're coming from MIbound2, but the above advice is an understatement.

Think of Detroit as a galaxy and think of Highland Park as a black-hole. (no pun intended..)

You'd be far better off staying right downtown -- which building would you be working in?

LOL!!! If you don't want to live in Detroit, you would go into shock by simply visiting Highland Park. It is the most dangerous, ugly, and overall depressing city in the state of Michigan, and even Detroit doesn't stack up to that. Honestly, I would look at some of the inner-ring suburbs, such as Warren, Ferndale, Hazel Park, Southfield, Lathrup Village, Redford Township and the Groosse Pointes if you intend on commuting downtown. And if you don't have children, consider moving to Downtown Detroit. Downtown actually has low crime rates, but if you venture outside of downtown, beware. The rest of the city of Detroit is pretty bad.

This has got to be a troll post. Highland Park is simply one of the worst towns in the entire country. There's no other way to put it. One of the few times I felt truly unsafe in the Detroit region was when I stopped at a mini-mart near the Davison freeway to get something to drink. On my way back to where I had parked, a couple guys started to approach me quickly in the manner you'd expect carjackers to approach a victim. I pulled out my handgun and waved it a bit, and they backed off, presumably to go look for a softer target.

It's a hellhole. Don't live there.

Smile Highland Park

Most of the comments are from individuals who only believe "bad press". I'm 48 years old, college educated and have a well paying job. I've lived all of my life in Highland Park and so has most of my family members who all have advanced degrees. My home is almost 100 years old and was designed with character and craftsmanship! Believe it or not, what's "wrong" with Highland Park are outsiders/suburbanites who take advantage of our town, dump trash, solicit and sell drugs, and commit all sorts of crime. True Highland Parkers are neighborly, friendly and concerned about the direction of our City. We have new businesses, forward-thinking administrators and the best housing stock/value for the money. We've had our problems, but I feel perfectly safe in Highland Park. It's the outsiders I fear the most. Best wishes!

Yeah, those suburbanites responsible for all that violent crime in Highland park are scaaaaary.......The power I fear most in them is their ability to remain invisible.

Here's the sex offender registry for Highland Park's most desirable (?) Zip code. Only 113 registered sex offenders in that zip:
PSORDisclaimer

Here's the sex offender registry for a similarly priced area of Livonia, where many dangerous suburbanites live. 19 offenders there.
PSORDisclaimer

113:19 quite a ratio huh? Wanna check out the FBI stats for armed robberies??? Go ahead, move to Highland Park. Get a Craftsman-style house with felon-style neighbors.
