That's a difficult question to answer because with all the corruption on the city council
in the police department and residence moving out at record numbers, the city doesn't have a chance.

There is not enough tax revenues because residences are moving out. Politicians are stealing money, Leadership had to be replaced after constant wrongdoing. It's just a long road ahead to repair and replace.

Crime is not a police problem; it's a people problem. If the people are crime-prone, then even posting a cop on every corner isn't going to help. And on the contrary, if people are crime-averse, then you only need a token police force.

As I've said before: high crime is not due to too few police, but to too many criminals.

No one said crime was caused by the police. There is a reason we need police officers. If all people were nice, then we wouldn't need police.

The corruption is nothing new, and isn't limited to Detroit. Chicago has had issues with corruption, but it isn't as violent as Detroit.

The question is how do we get people to stay in Detroit, and get the people involved in cleaning up the city, and getting things back to where they should be.

Leadership definitely needs to be replaced. That is a given. However, leadership alone isn't the problem. The city needs jobs, and for people to stay and fight for the city.

You'd still need them for such things as traffic accidents, but yes, not as many.

But what would happen if there is criminal activity? What would you do without police?

If all people were nice, who would be commiting the crimes?

Like I said before, if all people were nice, no police would be necessary. The fact is, we live in a society where many people are not nice and will prey upon other people.

It's a matter of competence.

Chicago's in a interesting position where it has corrupt but competent leaders. By and large, they get the job done and don't get caught with their hands in the cookie jar.

Detroit has a nasty combination of incompetent AND corrupt "leaders."

Neighborhood watch's have made a comeback and residents also started getting their concealed pistol licenses. Those who still live in the city are starting to fight back.
