What are some sights I should see while in Detroit? Mainly downtown, and up to about Wayne State. I would like to go to the suburbs, but it will cost a lot to take a cab, and bus service isn't great. Anyone know of any buses that go to Windsor? is it possible to take a cab across? Thanks and I appreciate your feedback.

I've seen the lobby and the Centre St facade of the Milner and it looks like it's had quite a makeover in the last couple of years. I haven't stayed there though.

Also check the Tunnel bus route and schedule here:

Ancientcoins, I am sure that you are aware that the vast majority of the students that attend Wayne State are commuter students that live in the suburbs.

Detroit is a predatory city, nobody is safe, they kill and steal from their own, and especially not of their own. The people as a whole in that city have little regard for anyone other than themselves.
Oh my. I could not have said this better. You couldn't pay me to go live in Detroit. Check the FBI crime statistics for Detroit.

I think the most appropriate question for a 17 year old is...why? Is it your intent to attend college? Uof D Mercy is an excellent institution. Wayne State University is one of the best in the state. Marygrove is an excellent school. Yet, if it's a only college education you seek there are many other places in the U.S. that would offer a safer, cleaner, and to say the least, a more exciting and intresting experience than Detroit.

If you're coming to Detroit in hopes of finding employment, settling down and starting a life/family...please take the advise of someone who has lived here all their life....FORGET ABOUT IT!!! Just Google the phrase "Michigan/Detroit Unemployent" or any U.S. government unemployment stats survey. You'll find that Detroit has one of the (if not THE) worst unemploment rates in the entire nation. (and you're only 17)

If it's not an "advantagous" educational choice in moving to Detroit, my advise to you is to look elsewhere.

Downtown Detroit is safer than most major cities. On the other hand other parts are junk. WHoever was talking about Minneapolis being so much safer isn't totally accurate. The crime rates are pretty high there too.

The walkway in front of the ren cen is cool. You can see all the boats and Windsor.

A lot of downtown areas are safe. Detroit in general is a heck of a lot more dangerous than Minneapolis. I lived in Detroit for quite awhile, and now I live in Minneapolis. It's like night and day. I love Detroit, but Minneapolis is a real, livable city.

Default Thank you for the replies

Hey everyone, I have decided that I will apply to Wayne State University. No matter how much bad I hear about Detroit, I still want to come. I am going to go ahead and see if i can get admitted to Wayne State. I believe by staying in the city for a few years, will give me the opportunity to really decide on whether or not I want to stay in Detroit. Thanks again everyone for your responses.

That's a good idea. My bet is that after that couple of years you will be quickly heading to the suburbs.
