help!is waterford a good place to live?
I am from Asian. It will be my first time to the US. Maybe I will live with a family in waterford,mi.But i am not familiar about this suburb.I saw some threads here wrote a lot of bad things about Detroit.Though the waterford is just a suburb of it,i still feel a little unset.Anybody here can tell me something about it?Is waterford a good place to live?Is it a safe beautiful and convenient place? Are there many beautiful towns or cities near it which worth visiting? Are there many recidents? Are they kind? Thanks

I haven't been to Waterford many times so I can't speak for it, but check out Farmington Hills, it's a nice area with a wonderful downtown and an excellent school system

Waterford is a good 40 miles from Detroit. So that doesn't affect the area. It's a pretty nice area, with a lot of lakes around it. I don't think you'll find any major problems with Waterford.

Been away for awhile, but from what I remember, Waterford is a decent area; but I tend to agree with The Artist. Check out nearby Farmington Hills - a bit more diverse, sophisticated, excellent school system and very pretty.

I lived in Waterford for about 2 years ~ I loved it. I must say that it was one of the better places I have lived. With shopping, mall, recreation... you name it just minutes away.

I live near Waterford. It is a safe area. The diversity is not the greatest, but the northern oakland county area is becoming more diverse. There are lakes nearby, and you can get to freeways and shopping easily. Near Waterford you might also check out Clarkston, Auburn Hills and Pontiac. There may be more to do and easier access to other entertainment.

Waterford is a nice area, just make sure you're in an area with Waterford, not Pontiac schools. BTW, not to sound racist or anything, but if you're looking for a large, diverse community, try Troy, MI. It's only about 20 minutes away from Waterford, and the Asian population runs around 20% there. There are a lot of different cultures, and a lot of recent immigrants such as yourselfes. My cousin's wife from China recently moved there, and she feels very comfortable. It's a beautiful, affluent city, with great schools and shopping. It's also very safe. Waterford is like Troy, except not as diverse.

i agree with dmetro for the most part. Troy is a great city. It is substantially more expensive than Waterford though, but much more diverse. Waterford is a great city if you are really into boating, as they have tons of lakes in that area. Troy is in the center of it all and is close to nice downtown areas (birmingham, rochester, royal oak, clawson). Farmington hills is suburbia and is a very white area.
