I definitely wouldn't include Windsor. I mean, it's a foreign country, you can't just move there. And the crossings are a huge pain, and would be a major problem on a daily basis.

Downtown Mt. Clemens may be an option.

People commute back and forth from there everyday. All you need is an enhanced license. I can imagine the US/Mexico border is MUCH more of a pain.

There's a little bit more effort needed if you were to consider Windsor an option over anywhere else in Metro Detroit; there's an immigrant visa sort of thing you have to get with the government of Canada, but that's really no different than getting a driver's license; there's also limits on what you can take across the border; and the COL is slightly higher (though QOL seems about the same). It wouldn't really be that bad as long as you don't mind the delay at the border, but outside of that, you pretty much would have a small downtown to live in with the amenities of a bigger downtown less than a mile away.

Yeah, some people do commute, but it doesn't mean it isn't a pain. Windsor is a small city with a terrible economy, so it makes sense that some Canadians in Windsor work in the U.S.

But, again, you can't just move to Canada. It's a foreign country, obviously. It would probably take years to obtain legal residency.

Thanks a lot! I haven't been there or heard much about it. Does anyone have additional input?

About Mt Clemens? Yeah...Ewwww! I would not move out there if I were you. It's redneck central and the downtown is terrible and run down.

Mt. Clemens is pretty under the radar. It's kind of similar to Pontiac, being one of the older suburbs, and it's a little run down in parts (including areas of the surrounding Clinton Township), however, it has a relatively intact downtown area.

The thing is, most of the area has seen a lot of new development and sprawl with strip malls to the north that's really drawn traffic away from Mt. Clemens. There's probably 2 or 3 bars left open but not much anything else. At least last time I was there, that's what it seemed like (I haven't been by there lately).

On the plus side, it's directly adjacent to I-94 so you'd have a straight shot downtown and to WSU.

It's certainly not yuppie central but it could be worse. It's not as bad as Taylor.

It's not a place I think of for being a great spot for a young, single guy. It's kind of far from the other cool locations mentioned in the thread, too.
