Default Allen Park

Commonly forgotten about. Right next to Dearborn. Good schools. Awesome football team. Nice downtown area (with a $1 movie theater!). It's hard to find a house for under $100k, but who knows these days. Park Ave and the side streets off of it have some beautiful houses.

No offense, but Allen Park is forgotten about for good reason. It's not a complete dump like Inkster or Wayne but it's a very dated city.

Every single person I knew (and there are A LOT of them) initially moved to Allen Park only because it was close to Dearborn but not as expensive. As soon as they were around for a while and learned the area they all packed up and moved somewhere else. (To one of the places on my list earlier in this thread.)

I have friends who work at Ford HQ - they live in Canton and Novi. I would recommend Canton - not only is it closer to Dearborn but the city is still growing therefore the houses are not as expensive. In addition, I belonged to their Chamber of Commerce so I feel very confident about the community.

Livonia isn't far either but as a Black woman, I'd rather take residence in a homeless shelter than live in Livonia. The racial overtones make me sick. But, that's a story for a totally different thread.

Feel free to send me a PM if you have more questions.

95% of non-UAW Ford Employees live in the following towns:

Canton
Van Buren
Ann Arbor Area
Dearborn

The drive from the west-side burbs like Plymouth & Canton is much easier than coming from Oakland county.

Allen Park has its charms but the city has a huge rat problem. You wouldnt know it by looking at the city cuss it appears clean but its been an on going problem.

Default Maybe

Maybe we have different ideas on "nice". Dump is a bad description. If you compare it to some of the nothern oakland county subs (Pontiac excluded), then yeah, not as nice. I know some people that live there and haven't heard anything about rats. If you don't like Allen Park I wonder what you think of Melvindale?

I personally like Allen Park. Not sure who says its a dump. I have seen some dumps and Allen Park isnt one of them. But yes they do have a serious rat problem. They just held another city council meeting on the issue last week. I believe two meetings in a span of 4-6 months. If you get the News Herald Newspaper, the article was in last wed. edition. The businesses on Southfield rd have black boxes in the alleys. I didnt know what they were at first but its rat traps

I think you should live in southwest Detroit, that is where the majority of mexicans tend to live.

My aunt commuted for 30 years (!) from Rochester to Dearborn.

Don't do that. Live in Northville.

In my opinion for you I would look towards the western suburbs "Nothville, Plymouth, Canton" are all very nice communities, the northern suburbs would be a long commute.
