I will be visiting Detroit and I was wondering if there are good record stores around downtown detroit ? I am more specifically looking for house/techno music in vinyl. Is downtown safe? thank you Pablo |

downtown is safe from 9-5. feel free to walk around wherever you want. just carry lots of spare change
![]() it was "soul rebel records," but they went out of business. now i guess its "record time" in either ferndale or roseville (10-15 minutes outside the city). but you might want a second opinion... i dont get down to the city much anymore. |

Many of the cooler record stores went out of business IMHO with Amazon and Napster...
I ditto the Record Time in Ferndale. They have a cool selection of all genres. It's really one of the last bastions of independent record stores in our area. All the good ones in Ann Arbor have closed too. In Utica we have Rockabilly's...Very ecclectic selection. Sorry that I don't know much about techno/house. House music though was born here in Detroit Google and see if you find anything or maybe check myspace too...Some stores and business have their own myspace pages. |

Here's a very good one
Street Corner Music url Metro Detroit's Best Kept Secret 248-644-4777 17620 W 13 Mile Rd, Franklin, MI 48025 Corner Of 13 Mile & Southfield Roads (In The Corner's Plaza) Average Rating: (based on 2 ratings) Add your rating Business Information View Website New & Used CD's & LP's Buy - Sell - Trade New & Used CD's & LP's Buy - Sell - Trade The AOL CityGuide Review The Scoop: Tucked in a strip mall, Street Corner Music is unassuming. However, it houses a vast collection of pop and rock releases, but specializes in R&B, jazz, soul, rap and hip-hop. Upon entering the store, shoppers are immediately taken by the more than 2,000 vinyl albums it offers. Unlike chain stores, Street Corner's staff is knowledgeable, whipping facts about everything from Motown to Chuck D off the tops of their heads. The Scene: Hip-hop, jazz and pop fans mingle, flipping through rows of CDs or vinyl. Fliers for performances by local and national bands line the windows of the store. Insider Tips: Street Corner Music has a great selection of used CDs as well as box sets.Christina Fuoco |

Detroit Threads and Record Graveyard in Hamtramck are both good record stores. Detroit Threads caters to techno lovers.
