I have to visit my girlfriend's parents (fun, ) in July. I am driving from Connecticut to Detroit. Any safe areas to drive/walk in? I own a 2014 BMW 3 series 2 Door, should I leave my car alone for the day, I know Detroit isn't the nicest area in the country...

Any good places to eat or museums to visit? I have to go for 3-4 days. My girlfriend's parents live a little outside Detroit, in a nicer area.

I'm looking to relocate to the area and I was sent this site: Things to do in Detroit | VisitDetroit.com

Also, I deactivated my Facebook, but there was something called Playing in the D... let me see if I have it saved somewhere.

Edit: here you go: http://opportunitydetroit.com/play/

I would say the following is safe to park your car in is inside the red circle areas. All of Downtown is safe to walk and most of midtown is safe also.

Some cool places to go is Good girls go to paris crepes which is down the street from DIA museum and African American museum. If nice weather, check out Bronx bar and Old Miami. Belle Isle is awesome and safe (Its Detroit central Park)

Some good places to eat

Mercury Burger Bar - Detroit, MI | Yelp
PizzaPapalis - Downtown Detroit - Detroit, MI | Yelp
Pegasus Taverna - Downtown Detroit - Detroit, MI | Yelp

Jwo, what's considered Midtown? Everyone I talked to when I visited said Midtown is the place to live.

Hmmm... maybe I'll look into it if Roseville doesn't pan out (though I am really hoping because a retail job I want to start here, a lot of them are in Roseville and I really liked Roseville), but it depends on the transit.

It's a brand new BMW, c'mon now. There's only two suburbs in all of Michigan where it's safe to park one.

Had it for 5 months, paid $40-50K for it.

So, I should park it in midtown? Or should I drive from place to place, parking better be cheap if I have to drive it.

I assume a brand new BMW is probably pretty hard to steal for the average crook. Lock it up, set the alarm, and try to put it in a parking garage or a well traveled/ lit area. Keep valuables out of plan sight. Worst case scenario, you should have full coverage for car insurance for something like that.

I meant that as a tongue-in-cheek joke; you're driving a foreign brand into America's auto heartland. Though there's a little bit of truth in that beamers do stick out a bit since they're not as common here outside of the nicer suburbs.

Anyway, parking is probably cheaper than it is in New England (except on game days). But yea, there's plenty of secured parking garages around if you'd rather not have it on the street.
