Now that the Inkster School District is gone, are the kids doing better at Wayne-Westland, Romulus, Taylor, and/or Westwood? Is it an inconvenience for those who were in the school district?

Yes and Yes. But the residents of Inkster have had their right to neighborhood controlled schools ripped from them. They now travel farther to school and the residents do not get to vote on school board members and probably have a more difficult time traveling to schools for conferences or to pick their children up is sick or suspended.

Are residents not allowed to vote at all? I thought they just vote for the board members of the new district? Their representation is diluted being split in four.

One thing to keep in mind is that not all of Inkster city is in the former district, which covered a large part of Inkster and a bit of Westland. Compare this http://www.resa.net/downloads/inkste..._084942_10.pdf to http://www.cityofinkster.com/Referen...Map-Zoning.pdf

There are still schools in the Inkster city limits (although on the edge of the city) and they are taking residents of the Wayne-Westland and Westwood portions.

Inkster residents probably cannot vote in Taylor or Westland elections? And do we really believe an Inkster resident could get elected on either board even if they could vote?
My understanding is there is no Inkster Public School District.

The city boundaries don't necessarily correspond to those of the school district. The Inkster school district, when it existed, didn't cover all of the city.

From my understanding they automatically get the right to vote in the new district, but because they are divided, they can't form a bloc of voters. As for the likelihood of becoming a board member: A significant bit of Westwood Community Schools is in Inkster (the sole middle school and one of the two elementary schools are in Inkster), but as for the other three (Wayne-Westland, Taylor, Romulus), Inkster is relatively a smaller part.

Here is a map of the Westwood district (which includes the area taken from the Inkster district): http://www.westwood.k12.mi.us/LinkCl...3d&tabid=21075 - Compare to Inkster: http://www.cityofinkster.com/Referen...Map-Zoning.pdf

The areas of the Westwood school district north of Annapolis, west of Beech Daley, and south of Cherry Hill are in Inkster
