Happy Independence Day everyone! Today is my birthday as well; but I am just staying home to save money for the move. I don't have friends where I currently live, so nothing to do (but, that's okay since I do want to move and need that money for the move... I just wanted to be moved by now because my friends are in the Midwest). I hope everyone else has a better day and better plans! For next year, so I can plan for my birthday, what does Detroit do for the 4th?

Jack a few cars and cap a couple of people on Woodward?

Seriously, the fireworks held the week before is the big party. Other than that I believe it is all suburban.

PARTY IN DETROIT?

This gave me a chuckle. I'm in PA still waiting for a job... but hopefully will be moved next year and can celebrate in Detroit!

There's not much in the city limits outside of the fireworks. You can check out the link below to give you an idea of what goes on the metro area though. When I was living in the Metro area not too long ago, the places for young professionals to be in the summertime in Metro Detroit were (in no particular order): Royal Oak, Ferndale, Ann Arbor, and Plymouth. These places have the most events, festivals, and night life in the summer.

Well Detroit's fireworks were last weekend right after RiverDays. I don't know why they do it that early unless it's so the suburbs can have their fireworks on the 4th.

There's a 4th of July party at Club Blue tonight. Yesterday it was Club Fame and Jefferson Beach Marina in SCS. I'm sure there's more smaller scale parties and get togethers going on tonight as well. Radio stations usually bring in a pretty good crowd.

I'm sure Belle Isle is going to be packed today.

Because Canada Day is July 1st.

Since Detroit shares a border with Windsor, Ontario, both cities have the same fireworks display as well as festivals on their respective sides of the river during the same week. On the Detroit side, it's the River Days and on the Windsor side it's called the Summer Fest. From 1959 up until 2007, it used to be considered a singular festival that spanned both sides of the river known as the International Freedom Festival.

Btw, I think Detroit's fireworks are considered the biggest in the country in terms of the amount of pyrotechnics used. The same guy that coordinates Detroit's fireworks also has done so for a few Olympic opening ceremonies.

Heck, I'd consider getting a room in the RenCen hotel for the night just to have front seats to the show.

Yea, I imagine the view looks pretty nice from most of the riverfront high rises.
