Detroit
Having lived in detroit all my life I have nothing but good things to say about Michigan's largest city and the Automobile Capitol. People may say bad things about Detroit because of it's past in the twentiest century. In the beggining of the twentiest century, many people from the south and other places in the country searched for jobs in the automible industry. But the schools were not well, nor the housing at the time, and in 1967, a riot called the twelve street riot broke out because people protest a police raid, "blind pig" at the corner of 12th Street and Clairmount and the riot spread throughtout the entire city. President Lyndon B. Johnson sent the national guard in to stop the riot and many of the middle-class white citizens left the city in a manor called "White Flight". Bus transportation amd a massive freeway destroyed busling Paradise Valley, busling Detroit neighborhood, predominately black, exceling the speed of which the polution fell from the peak of 1.5 million to a little over 900,000. The abanadoned shops and homes decayed and much of the city was blighted. Today However, downtown in busling again with business, hotels, casinos, and lofts and much more, and the city's neighborhoods are seeing a new start. Detroit is alos very historic and many of it's brick nieghborhoods are largely impressive. I live in a house in a beautiful brick neighborhood off of Outer Drive and I don't plan to move. Theres a better business association and nice neighbors. However some citizens have turned to crime making the city less desireable. I've always lived in a historic neighborhood in detroit and that won't change neither, detroit homes are mostly bungalows, and you shhould see our beautiful river front. It's spectacular. Here are some historic districts and notable avenues: Sherwood Forest, Bagley, Fitzgerald, Downtown, Midtown. New Center Area, Indian Village, Joseph-Berry Subdivison, Bricktown, Greektown, Krainz Woods, Palmer Woods, Conant Gardens, Boston-Edison Historic Destrict, and Belle Isle, and there are many more. If you wan't a map of all these neighborhoods go to Cityscape.com, or type in detroit neighborhoods and click on it. Detroit was founded in 1701 by Antoine De Mothe Cadillac. Folowing the fire of 1805 Court Justice, Augustas B. Woodward submited a plan for Detroit before congress and it was approved. Some major Streets: Woodward Avenue, Gratiot Avenue, Grand River Avenue, Jefferson Avenue, Michigan Avenue, Jefferson Avenue, Grand Boulevard, Outer Drive, Telegraph Rd., Seven Mile Road, McNickols Rd(Six Mile), Fenkell St(Five Mile Road), Van Dyke Avenue, Mack Avenue, Livernois Avenue, Wyoming Avenue, Mound Road. Visit if you ever get the chance. Thank you for reading. Jonathan Hosey
